Katherine Musolino, 2020

Katherine Musolino’s painting is born from a deep and instinctive love of colour, which she considers a language in its own right, capable of expressing what words cannot always convey. Each canvas thus becomes a space of balance between hues, intensities and transparencies.

Her work is built through layers and broad fields of colour, allowing light, depth and emotion to emerge. The colours meet, blend and respond to one another, creating contrasts that are sometimes bold and at other times more subtle. One colour brings another to the fore, transforms it, or gives it a new intensity.

Through this approach, the artist seeks to offer a space of freedom in interpretation, where each person can feel, project and allow their own emotions to emerge. She aims to awaken a sensation, to bring something intimate to the surface, so that each viewer can inscribe their own story within it.

Among the artists who have influenced her artistic vision, Mark Rothko holds an important place. Katherine Musolino particularly appreciates his way of working with subtle variations in colour and creating spaces that invite contemplation. Matisse, Van Gogh and Gauguin appeal to her through the strength and richness of their colours. Kandinsky inspires her with the freedom of his compositions, while Gerhard Richter appeals to her for his mastery of technique.

Literature also holds an important place in her world. Books, stories and words nourish her imagination, stimulate her reflection and naturally accompany her artistic journey.
